Besides her go-getter attitude, her never give up spunk, and her all around contagious personality, taragirl can sing which makes her a star on the rise. At the age of 3, a young Jersey girl can be seen in home videos barely able to hold a microphone but more than able to belt out tunes that would surprise any listener.
While others may be on their way to New York, the city of dreams to pursue their career, taragirl did the opposite and left New York with Philly as her destination. “I wanted to gain an audience that would appreciate the music that I had to bring,” taragirl says. “Philly has been known to bring forth great artists like Patti LaBelle and producers like Gamble and Huff. Philly is also known for its new sound of soul like those greats who performed with the Black Lily’s such as Jill Scott, the JazzFatNastees and The Roots,” she continues, “I wanted to be a part of that.”
Thus far, taragirl’s move has proved to be great for her career. She has shared music from her debut CD “The 26th Power” with many great artists who includes The Brand New Heavies, Avant and Hil St. Soul. Giving several fierce main stage performances, taragirl has become one of the most talked about “unsigned artists” on the east coast.
“I enjoy the attention that I have been getting from those that like my music but I am not letting it get to my head,” says the sassy performer. “I know that when you get to big headed you lose your focus and tend not to reach higher... I want to go straight to the top.”
The 26th Power is a very personal for taragirl and easy to listen for soul-sound lovers. “I wanted the songs to have meaning for everyone and I wanted people who like a different genre of music to be able to hear my music and enjoy it,” says taragirl.
One of the favorites on her CD is “Voicemail” where taragirl sings to a man that she is sorry that the relationship ended on a bad note and that they should try to remain friends. When asking taragirl how closely the song was to her own relationship, “Oh goodness, please don’t get me started,” she laughs.
